The Advocate July 2025: What to Expect at the AASA/ASBO Legislative Advocacy Conference

As we close out the week waiting to see what will happen with reconciliation and ready to enjoy a long holiday weekend, our advocacy team is excitedly waiting for next week, when we welcome more than 200 superintendents and school business officials to DC for our annual AASA/ASBO Legislative Advocacy Conference. This month's edition of the Advocate is all of the fun legislative policy you can look forward to when you join us in DC July 8-10 for the AASA/ASBO Legislative Advocacy Conference!
Conference Location & Check In: The conference will take place at the Grand Hyatt DC (1000 H St NW, Washington DC) and registration will be at the Constitution Picture Wall on Level 3B beginning at 8 a.m. on July 8.
Know Before You Go: Given in distribution of key FY25 federal funding, we ask that you come prepared to share how much funding is at stake for your district. The impacted programs are: Title I-C, Title II-A, Title III, Title IV-A and Title IV-B.

- July 8
- Andy Rotherham, co-founder and partner with Bellwether Education Partners will kick us off with ‘Navigating the Now’, an opening session to set the stage of all that his happening in education policy.
- ‘From the Frontlines to the Headlines’ will bring together Âܲ·AVÊÓÆµDirector of Communications Lara Wade with a reporter and two superintendents to discuss the work and strategy of telling the story of public education
- ‘Threats to Services for Students in Poverty’ brings together leaders from the Food Research & Action Center (FRAC), Coalition on Human Needs and National Association of School Psychologists to talk through the impact of federal policy on critical supports for disadvantaged students.
- Tiffany Kesslar, Partner with the Bruman Group, will provide a timely update and insights for navigating the unprecedented and uncertain federal funding landscape and what it will mean for schools for the 2025-26 school year.
- Your AASA/ASBO Advocacy team will prep you for everything you need to know for our Wednesday Hill Day.
- Presidential Installation will take place that evening, welcoming the new Âܲ·AVÊÓÆµPresident David Law, with reception to follow.
- July 9
- Our Congressional Breakfast kicks off bright and early featuring invited members of Congress and the Administration to share comments on education and their priorities for the future.
- Hill Day will commence after the breakfast, and attendees will venture to their respective meetings.
- July 10
- ‘Opportunities for Workforce & CTE’ features speakers from the National Skills Coalition, Jobs for the Future, and Advance CTE for a conversation about the current landscape of federal education policy for workforce and CTE.
- SCOTUS Remix: After one of the busiest Supreme Court terms we’ve seen for education in nearly two decades, we are thrilled to host Sonja Trainor, Executive Director of the National School Attorneys Association, for her recap of the court decisions and their implications for schools.
- IDEA Turns 50! We are proud to close our advocacy conference with a frank and timely conversation that honors the importance of IDEA and its transformative role in both education and special education.
