Telling a District’s Story Minus a Communications Professional

One afternoon on a school day last spring in my school district, I found myself standing behind a camera crew as students, alumni, parents, teachers and retirees answered a simple question: How has Oneonta City Schools impacted you?
Their responses — unscripted, heartfelt and deeply personal — captured something no press release ever could. That moment affirmed for me the power of video as a storytelling tool, especially in a small district like mine that operates without a communications department.
Like all superintendents, with our many responsibilities, I depend greatly on our extremely committed team of administrators. Any success we experience can only be credited to our team efforts.
