Supporting Assistant Principals as Inclusive Educators Focused on Their Leadership Growth, Development, and Pipeline to the Principalship

The assistant principal institute, a professional learning model aligned with national and state leadership standards highlighting six core competencies essential for school leaders, introduces and conceptualizes research to practice specifically for aspiring principals.
Through partnership efforts between a university, state department, the institute is designed with the unique challenges and responsibilities of assistant principals who must demonstrate mastery of leadership standards, continuous school improvement, and inclusive education. The institute uses evidence-based research to inform praxis and address the critical need to develop and sustain effective school leadership for aspiring principals. The impact of participation in the institute on leadership growth and self-efficacy is currently under investigation.
