STATE OF THE SUPERINTENDENCY

A substantial number of superintendents believe their gender or race has affected their career prospects.
According to a 2025 survey of 469 superintendents by the New York State Council of School Superintendents, 58 percent of women superintendents responded that they feel their gender negatively affected their career moves, and 70 percent of Black superintendents felt their race had negatively affected their career opportunities.
