Strengthening the public education narrative squarely within the country’s democratic practices through coalition building

Americans have a love-hate relationship with their schools. Decades of polling find as many as 80 percent of parents are satisfied with their child’s education. Yet when all Americans are asked, more than half say they are dissatisfied with the nation’s schools, according to a Gallup poll completed in August 2024.

This gap puts schools at risk. Why should businesses pay higher state and local taxes if they’re not getting career-ready employees? Why should older residents without school-age children support bond referenda when recent graduates don’t seem to vote? Why would new parents entrust their children to educators who may hold different values?
