Rachel Kowalski

Superintendent, Saline Area Schools (Mich.)

Dr. Rachel M. Kowalski is the superintendent of Saline Area Schools in Michigan.

She was hired in May 2025 and began her role on July 1, 2025. Dr. Kowalski believes strong schools and communities are built through relationships, collaboration, connection, and a shared commitment to ensuring every student has access to meaningful opportunities. Prior to her role in Saline, Dr. Kowalski served as superintendent of Colon Community Schools in southwestern Michigan, where she worked with her team to increase enrollment, improve attendance, and reduce behavioral incidents. Throughout her career, she has partnered with teams to create systems that support educators, strengthen school culture, and maintain a student-centered focus in all decisions.

Dr. Kowalski earned her Doctorate in Education, focusing on the impact of professional learning communities. She also holds an Educational Specialist degree and a Master’s in Educational Leadership from the University of West Florida, as well as a Bachelor’s degree from Oakland University. Beyond her district leadership, Dr. Kowalski serves as an instructor for the Michigan Association of Superintendents and Administrators Horizons Leadership Academy, supporting current and aspiring district leaders. Through her work at the local, state, and national levels, she remains committed to ensuring every student has access to an exceptional education.
