Anna Stubblefield
Dr. Anna Stubblefield became Superintendent of Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools (USD 500) on July 1, 2021, making history as the district’s first African American female superintendent. With over 27 years of experience in education, she began her career as a teacher, coach, and assistant principal before serving 13 years in Lawrence Public Schools as Deputy Superintendent, Interim Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, Director of Human Resources, and Middle School Principal.
As a proven and focused leader, she understands the importance of building effective leadership teams, increasing community outreach, and fostering vital partnerships within the community. Known for her vision and ability to lead with grace, which has resulted in developing systems that result in positive student achievement. Her leadership and dedication have earned her numerous honors, including the Breaking Chains Black Achievement Award (2022), Lift Her Up Honoree (2023), WyCo’s First (2023), Kansas Juneteenth Statewide Educator of the Year (2024), and the Yes She Can Award (2024).
A proud University of Kansas alumna, Dr. Stubblefield holds a bachelor’s in Education and dual master’s degrees in Special Education and Teaching & Leadership. She also earned an Educational Specialist degree from the University of Missouri–Kansas City and a Doctorate of Education from Saint Louis University. In October 2018, she participated in the Women in Education Leadership program at the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
She and her husband, David, have been married for 25 years and are the proud parents of three sons — Nate, Desmon, and Grant.
